Home Remedies for Digestive Problems
Digestive problems is a rather broad subject. Digestive problems can and do occur anywhere in the digestive tract. The digestive tract begins at the mouth and ends at the anus. The most common complaint associated with digestive problems is indigestion. Indigestion is a word used to describe several different conditions.
Gas and bloating can be described as indigestion or as heartburn, among other complaints. Many times poor digestion and all of the effects that it can produce can be avoided by simply eating more slowly, chewing the food more completely before swallowing, and not eating on-the-fly or when you are nervous or stressed.
After eating, a little mild exercise can help to make digestion easier and the digestive system work more efficiently; a walk around the block, for example, can work wonders.
However, there are many herbs that have been used over the centuries and found to be very helpful with digestive problems. These herbs have been used for generations with no side effects and they were used long before anybody even dreamed of an antacid tablet that could be purchased at the corner convenience store.
Some of the herbs that are known to aid in the digestion of food and to help avoid the problems associated with indigestion are: ginger, catnip, fennel, chamomile, and peppermint as a tea or peppermint oil mixed with a little carrier oil rubbed directly on the stomach area
Other herbs that will aid in digestion are: English bitters, balm, bitter orange, celandine, hops, and yarrow. Some food that has been found to be useful in aiding digestion over the years are: papin, papaya, and pineapple.
It is known by those who practice herbal medicine, those who use home remedies, and even the established medical profession that certain things are always detrimental to good digestion. Some of these things are vinegar, alcohol, and caffeine. Greasy food and refined food products aren’t any help to digestion, either.
