Home Remedies for Coughs
That little tickle in the back of your throat that causes you to cough is just plain irritating, and it isn’t very pleasant for those you must associate with, either.
There are a multitude of causes for a cough. Sometimes a cough can be just simply the body’s response to an allergen that has entered the system.
A cough can be caused by a post-nasal drip, or it can be yet another symptom of a cold or the flu. Whatever the cause of a cough is, however, the main objective of the cougher is get rid of it. Of course, drug store shelves are full of cough lozenges that are designed to help stop coughing.
Many of these products are very good and very effective. If you choose to use one, just be sure that it is one that contains zinc. The zinc will help in a lot of ways other than just stopping that hacking little cough. Herbal cough lozenges can be purchased at many health food stores and herbal supplement stores.
An old home remedy for coughs that my grandmother passed down to me that is very effective and better than anything that is available on the market is as follows:
- ¾ cup raw organic honey
- ¼ cup extra virgin olive oil
- 3 lemons – juiced
- Add all ingredients to a small pot over medium heat until steaming.
- Remove from the heat & let it cool.
- Place it into a mason jar or other container with a tight fitting lid.
- Store it in the fridge for 3 months, or on the counter top for 1.5 months.
Directions:
Take by teaspoon or tablespoon. Better when warmed.
* Remember, honey is only recommended for children after the age of one.
