How to Tell if Your Child is Stressed
Children show stress in different ways. You know your own kids best, so keep both eyes and ears open to spot any changes in their behavior and any issues they are struggling with that they are trying to talk about.
Watch for negative changes in behavior that include acting out, attention seeking, being moody, seeming worried all the time, avoiding activities they once enjoyed, complaining a lot about school, crying/acting emotional, and sleeping or eating too much or too little.
With teens, while it is great for them to wish to be independent, if they are acting overly hostile to the family, or are secretive and spending little time with you because they are socializing and confiding in their peers, there is clearly something stressing them.
Frequent complaints that they are “sick” is another sign of stress. Being touchy or argumentative with everyone is another manifestation of them being under pressure.
If your once perfect child is like a stranger these days, it might be time to get to the bottom of their stress.
